DESCRIPTION
Long before we started landspeed racing vintage bikes, Dave had a keen interest in old boardtrack racers. Now that we're racing, his imagination has been re-ignited.
He was finally able to purchase a 1915 Harley Davidson boardtracker last fall. The bike has an original motor in a reproduction chassis and required a learning curve to get the thing operational.
We took the boardtracker to El Mirage CA for a virgin test run in May '09. Mere humans couldn't push start the bike.... altho they tried. With some careful manuevering, a pit bike was used to push Dave, on the bike, up towards 20mph and she kicked into life.
Without brakes and a clutch its an all or nothing deal. The only way to stop is to kill the motor and coast. One thing Dave noticed right off...the bike handled great in the turns but was a bit shaky on the straight-aways.
